Always think of a cover letter as a personal introduction about you and what you can offer.
A cover letter should complement your CV and provide enough information to explain why you are ideal for a certain position.
So, how do you write a good cover letter? Always remember that a cover letter is usually the first thing that an employer looks at; they receive hundreds of CVs and letters – yours needs to stand out. Write a strong first paragraph that hooks the reader.
There are also several other things to consider with a cover letter – use yours to highlight some relevant skills, experience, and knowledge, and draw attention to key points on your CV. Add value to your cover letter – sell your key strengths and how you could help the organisation achieve its aims.
A good rule is to include some brief examples of past achievements and tailor your cover letter to the job vacancy you are applying for. Address the recruiting manager personally, and throughout your letter be enthusiastic and confident. Don’t just rehash your CV Try to keep your cover letter short and on one page; illustrate how your experience and skills fit the position.
End your cover letter on a positive note. And don’t forget to proofread!
