A recent report from the OECD has found that mental health related illnesses are costing the UK more than £94bn each year; this takes into account treatment, social support costs and the losses to the economy from people who cannot work. The report shows that the whole of Europe is struggling with mental ill health; more than 84 million people – or one in six – are affected.
The cost to the UK economy is in line with the rest of Europe at 4% of Gross Domestic Product.
