Artificial intelligence and facial expression technology is being used for the first time in job interviews in the UK, with the aim of identifying the best candidates.
The algorithms select candidates by assessing their performances in videos against 25,000 pieces of facial and linguistic information compiled from previous interviews from those who had gone onto prove they were successful in the job.
Hirevue, a US Company that developed the technology claim that it enables firms to interview more candidates in the initial stage rather than relying on CVs to assess potential candidates.
They claim that the technology provides a more reliable way to objectively assess candidates.
However, academics and campaigners have warned that AI and facial recognition technology would have in-built biases in its databases, and could discriminate against some candidates and exclude talented applicants.
