Oh, the frustration! Your commute to work.
We’ve all been there – but how long do you spend stuck in traffic on your commute?
According to the INRIX 2018 Global Traffic Scorecard, 200 cities were analysed, and the average amount of hours lost per year stuck in traffic were as follows:
Bogota in Columbia – 272 hours were lost per year, whilst Rome scored second with 254 hours. Next up was Dublin, scoring 246 hours, and then Paris with 237 hours. Rostov-on-Don in Russia equalled Paris with 237 hours.
Your City not listed yet?
London was next on the list with 227 hours, whilst Milan scored 226 hours and Bordeaux scored 223 hours.
Mexico City has a score of 218 hours; Moscow scored 210 hours.
Europe seemed to be the most affected areas, because most of the road network and traffic infrastructure was developed pre-automobile era. Dense town and City centre areas, along with criss-crossed road layouts added to the problem.
Is there a solution to the traffic problem?
The Chinese City of Hangzhou has come up with an ingenious solution. Using a traffic management system powered by artificial intelligence, the “City Brain” uses data from cameras and social platforms to monitor the flow of traffic. Since the system has been introduced Hangzhou is now 57 in the rankings.
