Tips for successful networking
Networking is important for every successful salesperson; by networking you are able to grow your business, your leads and opportunities, and also your reputation. Here are a few tips to help you successfully network:
Quality is better than quantity
Networking is not about meeting as many people as you can.; successful networking starts by meeting with people and having meaningful and deeper conversations with them. By having meaningful conversations, people are more likely to remember you.
Research
Do some research. Know who is going to the networking event you are attending. Check social media, view LinkedIn profiles, ask for an attendee list from the organiser. Know something about the people you want to meet – have a good conversation starter. Set goals Think about why you are attending the networking event – and set goals. Are you aiming to talk to a big potential client? Are you trying to find out more about the competition?
Avoid the hard sell
Don’t try and pitch your ideas, your company or your products – no one likes the hard sell.
Social media is important
LinkedIn is a powerful tool for reaching out and networking with other like-minded individuals But remember, many people are connected with hundreds of other people, and may not recognise you. When you are networking, look at a person’s profile first, to jog their memory, then solidify the relationship with a face-to-face conversation.
Don’t forget, there are many forms of networking – coffee shops, exhibitions, - even school open days!
Be careful with the drink
Networking and alcohol often go hand in hand – drink in moderation. Remember, networking is about leaving a lasting impression – you want that lasting impression to be a good one.
