Signs your interview went well

  Posted on 21/05/2019

How do you know if your interview went well? Here are a few signs…

1) The Interview lasted longer than you expected. This is a good sign. If the interview was longer than you expected, it means you were impressing the hiring manager. One thing to remember is a hiring manager’s time is precious, so if they dedicated more time to get to know you, they are clearly interested in you and what you have to offer.

2) The interviewer seemed engaged When the interviewer asked you questions, did you feel as though they were genuinely interested in the answers? If they smiled, nodded and asked for extra clarification on some points you made, it’s a good sign that they were interested.

3) You were shown around and introduced to potential colleagues This is very encouraging. If the hiring manager introduced you to potential colleagues, it means you made a good impression on the interviewer.

4) You were told what YOU would be doing Listen out at interview for these signs. If you are told something like, “You will be doing ….” This shows the interviewer feels you will be suitable for the position, and you have something that the interviewer is interested in.

5) The interview was relaxed and felt conversational If it felt as though your interview was more conversational, this is a good sign. It means that you have built up some rapport with the interviewer.

6) You were introduced to senior decision makers The hiring manager certainly isn’t going to introduce you to senior decision makers - and waste their time – unless they were impressed with you. This shows that they want to speed up the hiring process – particularly if the senior decision maker is someone who will sign off the final hiring decision.

7) Your questions are answered in full and the hiring manager made it clear about the next steps If you asked questions which were answered in full, it is often a sign that your interviewer wanted to make sure you are fully aware of what the role – and the company expects of you. If the hiring manager makes it perfectly clear what the next stages are – eg a second interview – or when you can expect feedback – they are saying you are in with a good chance of securing the position.

8) The hiring manager provides good feedback to us. If the hiring manager gives us good feedback, it means that your chances are strong. However, if, after all of these positive signs, you are not offered the position, don’t despair. This is not a reflection of you - this shows you have made a good impression on the hiring manager, and you were probably a strong contender. It means you are saying the right things in your interviews!
